This last week Peculiar Creative launched a new Facebook advertising campaign. The campaign is aimed at small business start-ups and existing individuals, who have not gone down the route of having a website created for them. We see a lot of people who choose Facebook to promote their business, maybe because of the familiarity of using Facebook on a personal level and the ease of being able to instantly update on the go with their mobile phones.
Oh...and it's FREE as long as you don't mind being bombarded with Facebook pushing you to spend on advertising with them, with the lure of your post reaching X amount of people in your area. This is of course totally optional and has it's uses.
Whilst Facebook is a very powerful tool for these kind of ventures and we ourselves promote our business this way, there are limitations. One of which is that your audience primarily exists of family, friends and colleagues and relies on their good will and sharing of your page. There are a few tricks you can use to help extend that reach, you've probably on occasion seen the # (hashtag) on various posts and maybe wondered what that means and why is it bold? Basically the hashtag symbol creates a public link to that keyword. So anyone who may happen to search on a term that you've used, will see your post and indirectly see your Facebook page. This is good right? Well, yes it is, but overdoing the hashtags – more than three we feel is actually a bad thing. Who wants to click on every link? We don't.
Anyway, back to the limitation of your audience, this is where a website has a more far reaching effect. A well constructed website should be Responsive (mobile friendly), have well thought out keywords and set up for SEO (search engine optimisation), have an easy to read functional UX (user experience) and be submitted to Google for indexing. Additional features should include Google My Business. All of these factors will add up to having your website easily found on Google, particularly if you want your business to be found on a local search. The other big factor is regular Blogging, hence why we do. Google is constantly crawling your website (yes with spiders...creepy or what!) to check for new content for it to Index. So regular blogging equals new content, Google likes this and consequently boosts your search ranking.
What might seem a chore for some people could actually really help their business.
