Here at Peculiar Creative we love an online tool! So with that in mind, here's a couple of gems we like to use.
Up first is a clever little website that tests your whether your website is Responsive (mobile friendly) and actually gives you a preview on a selection of Apple devices including iPhone and iPad. What's more if you're on a desktop you can physically move the devices around, we like that!
You can test your website at https://goo.gl/CNG5Px
Next up is a tool we use to grade our websites once they go live, it's a free tool and scores your website based on the following four categories and makes suggestions on how you can improve your website. We generally expect our sites to score a minimum of 70/100 so there's always room for improvement.
The categories are:

This last week Peculiar Creative launched a new Facebook advertising campaign. The campaign is aimed at small business start-ups and existing individuals, who have not gone down the route of having a website created for them. We see a lot of people who choose Facebook to promote their business, maybe because of the familiarity of using Facebook on a personal level and the ease of being able to instantly update on the go with their mobile phones.
Oh...and it's FREE as long as you don't mind being bombarded with Facebook pushing you to spend on advertising with them, with the lure of your post reaching X amount of people in your area. This is of course totally optional and has it's uses.
Whilst Facebook is a very powerful tool for these kind of ventures and we ourselves promote our business this way, there are limitations. One of which is that your audience primarily exists of family, friends and colleagues and relies on their good will and sharing of your page. There are a few tricks you can use to help extend that reach, you've probably on occasion seen the # (hashtag) on various posts and maybe wondered what that means and why is it bold? Basically the hashtag symbol creates a public link to that keyword. So anyone who may happen to search on a term that you've used, will see your post and indirectly see your Facebook page. This is good right? Well, yes it is, but overdoing the hashtags – more than three we feel is actually a bad thing. Who wants to click on every link? We don't.
Anyway, back to the limitation of your audience, this is where a website has a more far reaching effect. A well constructed website should be Responsive (mobile friendly), have well thought out keywords and set up for SEO (search engine optimisation), have an easy to read functional UX (user experience) and be submitted to Google for indexing. Additional features should include Google My Business. All of these factors will add up to having your website easily found on Google, particularly if you want your business to be found on a local search. The other big factor is regular Blogging, hence why we do. Google is constantly crawling your website (yes with spiders...creepy or what!) to check for new content for it to Index. So regular blogging equals new content, Google likes this and consequently boosts your search ranking.
What might seem a chore for some people could actually really help their business.

Two new websites for Print Street and Dance, Twirl, Cheer & Print. Both specialising in personalised embroidery and printing services. Print Street targeting general apparel, workwear and equipment, whilst Dance, Twirl, Cheer & Print are aimed more at Gymnastics, Baton Twirling and Cheerleader events.
Whilst being very separate identities, the client was keen for there to be some symmetry to their style and look. Both companies had established brand identities, so the challenge was on to make websites that are both functional and attractive, whilst also targeting their core markets.

Responsive web design is when a website is able to adapt to the screen it is being used on, regardless of what device it is. The website automatically reformats to give the user a better experience that it well suited to their device, whether it be desktops, tablets or mobiles and can give your site a number of benefits as well as being in line with Google recommendations.
Still not convinced?
Ofcom recently reported that over two thirds of people in the UK now own a smartphone, using it for at least two hours every day to browse the internet, check social media, as well as online banking and shopping. 33% of internet users even see their smartphone as the most important device for going online, spending twice as long online with our smartphones than laptops or personal computers. So having a responsive website is vitally important for your business, due to the amount of people who could be viewing your website through a smartphone or tablet.
Google constantly updates the way is documents and indexes websites, and one of their latest recommendations is to have a responsive web design. Google now uses mobile friendliness in search results. In other words, Google is rewarding sites that are fully optimised for mobile platforms. Its importance only increases in 2017. But what exactly can a responsive website bring to your business?
The benefits of responsive web design
With a responsive website, the content is automatically flexible across all screen resolutions and various devices. In other words, no matter what device you are viewing a website on, the user will have optimal viewing experience including ease of navigation and without having to constantly pinch and zoom around.
With the importance of mobile-friendly websites only increasing, Peculiar Creative ensure your web design is the best it can be! Why not get in touch to find out how we can help you unlock the potential of your business.
